The environs
The spring and the autumn are suited particularly for excursions close to and further inland of La Marina. Away from the beaches in the green hinterland, in the mountains, with great views of the different best preserved sceneries. Climb the mountains, enjoy the fantastic views of the countryside and of the sea and be surprised by the Spanish friendliness. You will discover a lot of new things. La Marina has more than the beach and the sun to offer.

The villages of San Fulgencio, La Marina-Pueblo, Rojales, Almorad to, Crevillente, Dolores and Catral etc. invite you to visit them. Stroll by the Old Towns, along the mostly agrarian-economically used surfaces, past oranges and lemon trees, and call into the little stores with a wide offer of local products (e.g. jewellery, fans, wine, ham and olive oil).

The hinterland
A little bit further you can take part in a medieval dinner in Alfas del Pi, visit Guadalest and Benidorm or go to the Sanctuary La Magdalena, in Novelda. It was built in a modernism style by Jose Sala, a pupil of the famous architect Gaudi.

You can purchase red and rose wines in the area of Monovar, El Pinoso. This cultivation area will entice you. It is known beyond the Spanish land borders for its very good wines. In every Bodega wine can be tasted, and visitors are often offered honey and olive oil as well. In Petrel and Villena, their castles, which are from the 12th century, can be visited.

Elche
Elche, the city of the palm-trees, is about13 km away from La Marina. The town is famous, above all for the significant archaeological findings (the lady of Elche, which is the most important piece of Iberian art found in the whole peninsula) and the big palm-trees garden which was declared world cultural heritage by the Unesco in 2000, along with the medieval representation The Mystery of Elche. One can visit the dated palm-trees cultivated by the Moors in the 13th century in the Huerto del Cura in Elche. Especially the king's palm with 7 palm arms which was dedicated to the empress Sissi and the big cactus garden is worth visiting. A stroll by the Old Town is also worthwhile. There you can visit the numerous museums and exhibitions. Elche is also famous for the palm procession on Easter Sunday.

Caves of Rojales
Art lovers can make an excursion to the caves of Rojales. Besides the inspection of the cave and an insight into the life in a cave house an art exhibition with varying programs can be also visited. After the visit there will be refreshments available. The visit must be booked in advance. In Bussot near Alicante one can visit the famous Cuevas the Canelobre, limestone caves with spectacular stalactites and stalagmites. Also here the visit must be announced before.

Tabarca
Near the beach of La Marina is the island Tabarca with just 40 inhabitants and no cars. The island is worth visiting, above all, because of its unique nature and the very varied underwater world. One can practice snorkeling there. The journey on one of the glass bottom boats from Santa Pola or Alicante will inspire you. Do not forget to supply yourself with enough sun protection!!!

Chocolate factory of Valor
For all the chocolate lovers among us a visit to the chocolate factory "Valor” in Villajoyosa is recommended. Of course a museum can be visited there and you can learn everything about the production of chocolate and the history of this old traditional factory. Some of the products can be immediately tried and you can also stock up your home supply of chocolate!

Guadalest
This Spanish mountain village lies approx. 800 m high and offers a fantastic view of the famous reservoir. The turquoise colored water in the middle of the scanty mountain landscape is simply dreamlike. For the roundabout walk of the reservoir on foot one needs approx. 2 hours. Sturdy footwear and enough liquid are to be recommended here. In the mountain village approx. 200 inhabitants live there who have accustomed themselves in a pleasant way to the tourism life. There are many small lanes, past the church built in a mountain slope, numerous art craft shops, countless selling points and small bars and restaurants.

Lagoons of Torrevieja
The lagoons of Torrevieja offer a welcome difference to the hectic city and beach life. The park is a nature reserve and still serves, above all, for the salt production which goes back to the 18th century. You can go round the saltworks on foot or by bike. In addition, you can visit an exhibition about the salt production. The reddish coloring of the saltworks comes by the little salt crabs in the water. The flamingos eat them and thereby get their pink colour. The air is recommended especially for people with breathing and skin problems.
